The Best Tempura Recipe - you will be tempted to make it again and again

Have you tried Tempura? It's a Japanese cuisine made with seafood and vegetables. It is made with thin batter and deep fried in vegetable oil or canola oil or light olive oil.


With very few ingredients this delicious crispy fried appetizer can be made.

  1. Do not over beat the batter. It is ok if there is few lumps in the batter

  2. The batter has to be in a runny consistency not thick not watery

  3. Salt is not needed for this recipe.

  4. Serve hot it taste better

  5. Make the batter only after shrimps and veggies are ready

  6. Batter has to be used immediately once prepared

Ingredients 

  • All purpose flour - 1 cup

  • Egg - 1

  • Ice cold water - 250 ml or 1 cup and 2 tbsp

  • Oil to fry


Preparation 

  • Clean the shrimp. Make one or two slits on the sides to make the shrimp hang straighter

  • Cut some veggies like carrots, cauliflower, kales, broccoli

  • Add all the ingredients except oil. Gently mix. Do not over mix

  • Add extra spoon full of water if needed to bring the batter to the right consistency 

  • Heat the oil. The oil temperature should be medium high. For the batter to cook immediately without drinking oil.

  • Dip the shrimp and immediately add it into the oil

  • Do not flip or touch the cooking shrimp in the oil for 1 or 2 minutes then flip them

  • Remove from oil when it turns light brown color.

  • And serve hot
